Case Study

Cost Optimization By Board Area

A multinational customer was using a Regular Slotter Container (RSC) type box with Size as 480 x 455 x 130 mm OD. The box was taken up cost optimization.

Simple basic technique for optimization of box size for RSC Boxes was applied i.e. the ratio of 2:1:2 (Length x Width x Height). Depending on the product’s size and internal layout of the product in the box, the new size arrived was 454x250x250 mm OD. The board area required for the new size of box was 34.5% less than the originally used.

The suggestion was accepted by the customer and the same resulted in savings to the tune of several lakhs per annum.

“The box dimensions for RSC (Universal Type) Box is best in cost optimization when they are in the ratio of 2:1:2 (Length x Width x Height)”
